Below you will find additional information regarding 2023 Edina Softball* team formation, programs costs and important dates for the program.

*In January 2023, the Edina Girls Fastpitch Association (EGFA) has merged with the Edina Softball Association (girls slow-pitch) to offer one home for Edina Girls Softball. Registration for this upcoming Spring/Summer 2023 season will include options for both those interested in travel and recreational teams.

Determining Age Level (6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U)

Age groups are 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U.  Age level or division for Travel and Recreational can be determined in the table below:

Note: Grade level is approximate and is the grade the player is currently in.  Follow the birthdate range to determine level. 

Team Outdoor Practices (weather permitting) begin in April for all teams.

6U (Recreational teams only, typically K/1): Games start May 4th, Thursdays at 6:00 - single games - generally every week at Cornelia, Yancey or Weber parks.   The season runs through the end of June, with an end of the season tournament in July (TBD date).  Practices/games are held 1 (maybe 2) days a week 6:00 - 7:30 and coaches work with parents to come up with the best schedule to fit their needs. 

• Recreational Team Info
  • Team formation – based on friend requests and by school
  • Game frequency – 1 night per week
  • Practices – 1 time a week, beginning in April (weather permitting)
  • Pitching – both hitting tee and coach
  • Game locations – Edina inter-city only
  • Recreational - end-of-season tournament
  • Jersey included in fee

8U (Travel and Recreational teams) typically 2/3, but please check dates for travel: Games start May 3rd, Wednesdays at 6:00 - single games - generally every week at Pamela, Cornelia, Weber or Yancey parks and for travel teams - community association parks throughout the western suburbs.  The last 2 weeks of the season will consist of double headers.  Practices are held 1 day (sometimes 2) a week 6:00 - 7:30 and coaches work with parents to come up with the best schedule to fit their needs.  The regular season practices and games run through the end of June, with post season tournament play occurring in July. • Recreational Team Info
  • Team formation – based on friend requests and by school
  • Game frequency – 1 night per week except for the last 2 weeks of the season which are doubleheaders
  • Game locations – Edina inter-city only
  • Pitching – manual machine
  • Practices – 1-2 times a week, beginning in April (weather permitting)
  • Tournaments – 1 Edina inter-city end-of-season tournament
  • Uniform – Jersey included in fee, player provided black pants, green belt, and green socks
• Travel Team Info
  • Team formation – based on friend requests and by school
  • Game frequency – one night per week except for the last two weeks of the season
  • Game locations – Edina and community parks throughout the western suburbs
  • Pitching – manual machine
  • Practices – 1-2 times a week, beginning in April (weather permitting)
  • Tournaments – 1 invitational tournament for the season; and a state tournament
  • Uniform – Jersey included in fee, player provided black pants, green belt, and green socks

  • Team formation – formed on try-outs; generally, one – A level (competitive) team and multiple B level (less competitive) teams based on skill level of players
  • Game frequency – 1 doubleheader per week during May (Tuesday), 2 doubleheaders per week starting in June (Tuesday and Thursday)
  • Game locations – Edina and travel for games in metro area
  • Pitching – kid-pitch
  • Practices – 2 practices per week, beginning in April (weather permitting)
  • Tournaments – 2-3 invitational tournaments (includes Edina Mayfly) in Spring/Summer, state qualifier tournament and state tournament; Edina Mayfly has a required parent volunteer commitment with buyout option
  • Uniform – player purchases uniforms (jerseys, pants, socks, belt)

• Recreational
  • Team formation – no try-outs required; C level are recreational teams
  • Game frequency – 1 doubleheader per week (Tuesday or Thursday)
  • Game locations – Edina and travel for games in metro area
  • Pitching – kid-pitch
  • Practices – 1 practice per week, beginning in April (weather permitting)
  • Tournaments – 1 invitational tournament in the Spring/Summer, state qualifier tournament and state tournament at end-of-season
  • Uniform – player purchases uniforms (jerseys, pants, socks, belt)

12U (Travel and Recreational teams): Games start May 1st (Monday and/or Wednesday, 6:00 and 7:30 - double headers).  The regular season practices and games run through the end of June, with post season tournament play occurring in July.  Practices are held 1-2 days a week 5:00 - 8:30. 14U (Travel teams): Games start May 23rd, commencing when the high school season ends (Tuesday and Thursday, 6:00 and 7:30 - double headers).   The regular season practices and games run through the end of June, with post season tournament play occurring in July. Practices are held 1-2 days a week between 5:00 - 8:30. More info below:

Evaluations (for 10U and 12U travel only)

Evaluations are used to determine team placement as there is a wide range of skill levels.  They will take place in early March 2023.  

They currently are only held for Travel 10U and 12U players.   There are no tryouts for 6U, 8U, 10U/12U Recreational, 14U and 16U. 

Players will be notified prior to that weekend which day their age group is scheduled.

After evaluations have been completed, the Team Formation Committee will meet to form and approve teams.

The cost for the 2023 Spring/Summer Season is below:

6U Recreational - $150

8U Recreational - $150
8U Travel - $150

10U Recreational - $375
10U Travel - $425

12U Recreational - $400
12U Travel - $450*

14U Travel - $450

*Additional fee will be assessed after tryouts for those players assigned to a team with a paid coach (~$100-$150)

Fees cover the cost of insurance, field fees, tournament fees, umpire fees, equipment costs, training, etc. Note: For 6U-8U, the fee also covers the cost of the player's jersey. For 10U-14U, the cost of the jersey(s) are expected to be covered by the player and will need to be purchased separately.
