Below you will find additional information regarding 2024 Edina Softball* team formation, programs costs and important dates for the program.

2024 SEASON INFO

Determining Age Level (6U, 8U, 10U, and 12U)

Age groups are 6U, 8U, 10U, and 12U.  Age level for regsistration can be determined in the table below:

Note: Grade level is approximate and is the grade the player is currently in.  Follow the birthdate range to determine level. 

Team Outdoor Practices (weather permitting) begin in April for all teams.

6U (Recreational, typically K/1): Season runs end of April through mid-July. Games start mid-May - single games - generally every week at Cornelia, Rosland or Weber parks.   The season runs through mid-July, with an end of the season tournament in July (TBD date).  Practices/games are held 1 (maybe 2) days a week and coaches work with parents to come up with the best schedule to fit their needs. 

  • Recreational Team Info
    • Team formation – based on friend requests and by school
    • Game frequency – 1 night per week
    • Practices – 1 time a week, beginning at the end of April (weather permitting)
    • Pitching – both hitting tee and coach
    • Game locations – Edina inter-city only
    • Recreational - end-of-season tournament
    • Jersey included in fee

8U (Travel and Recreational teams) typically 2/3, but please check dates for travel: Season runs mid-April through the end of June. Games start end of April, weekly at local Edina community fields (Pamela, Todd, Cornelia, Weber or Yancey) and, for travel teams, community association parks throughout the western suburbs.  The last 2 weeks of the season will consist of double headers.  Practices are held 1-2 days a week and coaches work with parents to come up with the best schedule to fit their needs. More info by team types below: 

  • Recreational Team Info
    • Team formation – based on friend requests and by school
    • Game frequency – 1 night per week except for the last 2 weeks of the season which are doubleheaders
    • Game locations – Edina inter-city only
    • Pitching – manual machine
    • Practices – 1-2 times a week, beginning mid-April (weather permitting)
    • Tournaments – 1 Edina inter-city end-of-season tournament
    • Uniform – Jersey included in fee, player provided black pants, green belt, and green socks
  • Travel Team Info
    • Team formation – based on friend requests and by school
    • Game frequency – one night per week except for the last two weeks of the season
    • Game locations – Edina and community parks throughout the western suburbs
    • Pitching – manual machine
    • Practices – 1-2 times a week, beginning end of April (weather permitting)
    • Tournaments – 1 invitational tournament for the season; and a state tournament
    • Uniform – Jersey included in fee, player provided black pants, belt, and green socks

10U: Games - start end of April (Tuesdays and Thursdays; Thursday games start in June) at 6:00 and 7:30 - double headers.  The regular season practices and games run through the end of June, with post season tournament play occurring in July. Practices are held 2-3 days a week. More information below by level: 

  • 10U (A/B level teams)
    • Team formation – formed based on tryouts; one – A level team, one B-level team and multiple C-level teams based on numbers skill level of players
    • Game frequency – 1 doubleheader per week during May (Tuesday), 2 doubleheaders per week starting in June (Tuesday and Thursday)
    • Game locations – Edina and travel for games in metro area
    • Pitching – player-pitch
    • Practices – 2-3 practices per week, beginning in April (weather permitting)
    • Tournaments – 2-3 invitational tournaments (includes Edina Mayfly) in Spring/Summer, state qualifier tournament and state tournament; Edina Mayfly has a required parent volunteer commitment with buyout option
    • Uniform – player purchases uniforms (jerseys, pants, socks, belt)
  • 10U (C Teams)
    • Team formation – no tryouts required. Ability to opt-in to C-level team
    • Game frequency – 1 doubleheader per week (Tuesday) in May and 2 doubleheaders a week in June (Tuesday & Thursday)
    • Game locations – Edina and travel for games in metro area
    • Pitching – player-pitch
    • Practices – 1-2 practices per week, beginning in April (weather permitting)
    • Tournaments – 1 invitational tournament in the Spring/Summer, state qualifier tournament and state tournament at end-of-season
    • Uniform – player purchases uniforms (jerseys, pants, socks, belt)

12U: Games start end of April (Monday and/or Wednesday, 6:00 and 7:30 - double headers).  The regular season practices and games run through the end of June, with post season tournament play occurring in July.  Practices are held 1-2 days a week. More info below by level

  • Team formation – formed based on tryouts; one – A level team, one B-level team and multiple C-level teams based on numbers and skill level of players
  • Game frequency – 2 doubleheaders per week (Monday/Wednesday)
  • Game locations – Edina and travel for games in metro area
  • Pitching – player-pitch
  • Practices – 2 practices per week, beginning in April (weather permitting)
  • Tournaments – 2-3 invitational tournaments (includes Edina Mayfly) in Spring/Summer, state qualifier tournament and state tournament; Edina Mayfly has a required parent volunteer commitment with buyout option

Evaluations (for 10U and 12U only)

Evaluations are used to determine team placement.  They will take place in early March.  

They currently are only held for 10U and 12U players.   At the 10U level, players have the ability to opt-in to a C-level team with no tryouts required during registration. There are no tryouts for 6U and 8U.

After evaluations have been completed, the Team Formation Committee will meet to form and approve teams.

SEASON COSTS

Cost by age-level for the 2024 Spring/Summer Season:

  • 6U Recreational - $150
  • 8U Recreational - $150
  • 8U Travel - $200 Registration Fee and $50 Hosting Fees
  • 10U - $425 Registration Fee and $100 Hosting Fees
  • 12U* - $450 Registration Fee and $150 Hosting Fees

*Additional fee will be assessed after tryouts for those players assigned to a team with a paid coach (~$100-$150)

Registration fees cover the cost of insurance, field fees, tournament fees, umpire fees, equipment costs, training, etc. Hosting fees cover all tournament related costs hosted by Edina.  Note: For 6U-8U, the fee also covers the cost of the player's jersey. For 10U-12U, the cost of the jersey(s) are expected to be covered by the player and will need to be purchased separately.

10U/12U Pre-Tryout Free Clinics

Join Edina Softball for two pre-tryout clinics! Secure your spot by registering for these free clinics today. It's a great opportunity for your player to enhance skills and prepare for tryouts. Open to any registered 10U/12U player.

  • 6-Under Thursday
  • 8-Under Wednesday
  • 10-Under Tuesday and Thursday Double Headers. Thursday games do not start until June
  • 12-Under Monday and/or Wednesday Double Headers
  • 14-Under Tuesday and Thursday
  • High School Monday and Wednesday
