Congratulations to Adriana Weigle the 2024 Dave Wood's Memorial Scholarship Recipient and Mara Willette the 2024 Richard Clarke's Memorial Scholarship Recipient

Dave Wood Memorial Scholarship

The Dave Wood Memorial Scholarship was established in 2011 by the EGFA board upon hearing of his passing to recognize Dave’s immense contributions to the sport of fastpitch softball in Edina.

He was a teacher and coach in Edina schools for 33 years and introduced and established fastpitch softball in the school system before it was a sanctioned high school league sport.

This year's recipient is Adriana Weigle.  Adriana has left an indelible mark on the Edina fastpitch softball community.  She has earned multiple letters for her softball pursuits, and she serves as captain of the team her senior year.  Outside of her athletic accomplishments, Adriana is a talented musician who has participated in the Edina Band program for many years.  Adriana will attend the University of Nebraska- Lincoln in the fall where she will study nursing or biology.

Richard Clarke Memorial Scholarship

The Richard Clarke Memorial Scholarship was established in 2023 by the EGFA board upon hearing of Rich’s passing, to recognize his immense contributions to the sport of girls youth fastpitch in Edina.

Rich was a coach, mentor and integral part of EGFA for over 10 years – investing his time, energy and resources in the association and softball community for girls fastpitch.

This year’s recipient is Mara Willette.  Mara is a captain of the Edina Varsity Fastpitch Softball team this year.  A driven athlete, Mara has earned four varsity letters for the high school team.  She also plays on a club softball team called Clutch Hitters of out Bloomington, MN.  Aside from her athletic prowess, Mara has been a member of the Edina High School band program and has volunteered in various capacities including childcare and coaching.  Mara, an Edina Scholar, will attend the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in the fall.

These awards recognize a senior from Edina High School who has participated in our association, has also been a member of the school’s softball program, has maintained a 3.0 or higher GPA, and exemplifies the spirit of these coaches through excellence both on and off the field.

On behalf of the board of directors, sponsors, and families of EGFA we congratulate Adriana and Mara on your achievements.
